The Story Behind the Name

A "Kabuliwala" is a traditional Afghan fruit merchant who travels to different cities, carrying dried fruits, nuts, and spices on their backs. These merchants became iconic figures in South Asian culture, known for their distinctive appearance with long beards, traditional clothing, and their characteristic call of "Badam, Anjeer, Kishmish!" (Almonds, figs, raisins!).

Cultural Significance

The term gained worldwide recognition through a famous short story "Kabuliwala" (1892), which depicted the touching relationship between an Afghan merchant and a Bengali family. The story beautifully captures themes of immigration, paternal love, and cultural bonds that transcend borders.
