World Storytelling Day
"Once upon a time when nobody existed, only a young boy and a charming girl, lived in a beautiful jungle, they bathed in the lakes, loved and immersed in themselves under the sun, mated around the river and sat under the tree, ate natural fruits, and decorated each other with flowers. They wore nothing but covered beauty around them. The creator of the jungle gave them only one warning, go everywhere in the jungle, but don’t climb this huge devil tree."

So what is it that goes behind the mind of a storyteller, let’s catch him off guard…

Let's listen to the Kabuliwala
"Let's listen to the Kabuliwala
When it comes to renowned storytellers, Kamal Pruthi's name is the first one to be on people's list. Popularly known as the Kabuliwala, Kamal has many credits to his name in the world of storytelling. He says, "Unlike others, storytelling is not a hobby for me, it is a profession that I blend into. When I perform stories, I just don't talk or tell them about some characters and finish it with a moral. I sing, dance and tell poems that carry a beautiful message. I blend music in my stories, and hence, several other musicians perform along with me.""

Students were laughing, singing, running around in circles and having a gala time! Even maths was made interesting through a rap song. The students as well as the teachers were left asking for more."

The relevance of Manto
"The performers and audience were not divided by a stage or an exclusive space. They journeyed along with the actors and director from the basement to the library of the beautiful Atta Galatta. This is the format of the Museum style theatre, of which Kamal is a pioneer. It is a democratic form of theatre that bridges the gap between the performer and the audience. Gathered around the actors, the audience listened carefully to and empathised with each of the individual accounts of loss and pain. Kamal has conducted Museum Theatre in different places, from underground construction sites to buildings. He acts as a guide and says that “he is like a curator who leads the audience to paintings that begin to speak and tell a story.”"

Reviving The Art Of Story Telling In India- By Richa Sharma
"Kamal Pruthi, now famously known as Kabuliwala is on a mission to revive the culture of story telling in India. Coming with a huge experience of theatre and acting he believes, it is the need of the hour that schools in India adopt the art of story telling. According to him “ CBSE should introduce theater as a subject in school curriculum. Everyone understands the need of story telling but it is seen as a kind of fancy thing not as a core thing. Today, the style of teaching has completely changed than our times but still I try and do workshops for the teachers on how they can integrate stories and stich their subject so that students can use that in their real life, be it Math’s, Chemistry, Biology or Physics”."

He’s telling them of distant lands and exciting adventures, and his voice rises and drops and changes dramatically, reeling his audience in. A loud infectious giggle punctuates the story, and a father, his son’s backpack resting against his leg, leans towards me and asks in a hopeful whisper, “Does this happen every Saturday?”"
